Conference Support
CLSA members may apply for financial support from the Association for conferences, symposia and workshops that contribute to socio-legal scholarship in Canada. Events must be sponsored by CLSA members, must be held in Canada, and must be likely to attract at least twenty attendees. We are particularly in favour of events held in parts of the country not recently served by either an annual or midwinter meeting of the CLSA or some other CLSA-sponsored event. Ideally, sponsored conferences, symposia and workshops will also be likely to provide CLSA graduate student members with opportunities to present their research and make connections with more senior scholars.
We anticipate making two or three awards of between $300 and $600 per year. In their applications, applicants should describe the event’s contribution to socio-legal scholarship, the expected participants, the applicant’s relationship to the CLSA, and how the CLSA’s support will be publicized. Applicants should specify how many CLSA members are expected to attend. Any involvement of graduate students should be specifically noted. Applications for funding will be considered in March and October of each year; accordingly, the funding deadlines are March 1 and October 1.
